Weihnachsmythologie und Kommerz

Der Advent naht, der Weihnachtsmann ist auf dem Weg, sein Stellvertreter aus Schokolade schon jetzt zu verspeisen.
Am Freitag, den 24.11.23 und Sonntag, den 26.11.23 jeweils von 18:00 bis 22:00 zeigen Sebastian Herrling und Dima Dobrovolskij Collagen, die sich künstlerisch mit dem Thema Weihnachten, dessen spirituellem Ursprung und seiner Kommerzialisierung in der heutigen Zeit auseinandersetzen.
Obwohl sich die meisten von uns nach Ruhe, Besinnlichkeit und Liebe sehnen, artet es häufig in Hektik und Stress aus. Dabei erfasst der “Konsumterror” inzwischen weite Teilen der Welt.
Ein Grund mehr für das Duo Euch zur Reflexion über dieses Thema anzuregen.
Die Ausstellung findet in der Bass CS Galerie im Wedding, Soldinerstraße 103

We cordially invite you all to the opening of the exhibition of two wonderful artists, Maria Arendt and Andrei Prigov. The exhibition is called Sky versus Sky. Using different techniques and methods, both artists will tell and show to an interested public their celestial observations and cloud experiences.

Sky vs Sky

"Regardless of our geographical location and cultural aspects of world perception we experience the sky as well as all its forms of meteorological, optical, and other manifestation as a phenomenon whose nature is the same for all of us. But can our modes of perceiving the sky be like endlessly diverse and abysmally disparate paradigms of Weltanschauung that determine and shape humans’ understanding of the surrounding world? We can easily assume that a meaningful conversation about the sky would not be possible. It might lead to mutual alienation and confrontations.
In Sky vs. Sky Maria Arendt (Raining with Animals) and Andrey Prigov (Cloud Spawn) explore unusual processes they observe—or rather, perceive—in the sky. These purely individual forms of experiencing celestial occurrences are akin to the phenomena spied in the heavens by countless forms of mythological consciousness, which endows these events - be it turbulence or cloud formation - with radically different and radically incompatible natures.

At the exhibition Lyudmila Belova will present an installation reflecting the structure and workings of the human brain. In addition to the theme there will be graphics and paintings by the artist.
The author briefly describes the installation:
"By creating a neural network space out of polyethylene foam pipes, or by depicting this
microscopic world by very traditional means, using painting and drawings, I want to bring the world of interwoven neurons, axons and dendrites closer to the viewer and make it more understandable. To show the existence of the inner universe that each person has, without showing it on the screen. "
This work was inspired by the work of Pavel Chelishchev (1898-1957).
The exhibition will feature a fragment of the audio installation "Default network" by IGOOR POTSUKAYLO.

On Dec 3-4, a congress of anti-war initiatives was

On Dec 3-4, a congress of anti-war initiatives was held in Berlin (rossiyane who are against the war). After the congress (Dec 05), representatives of the indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation gathered within the walls of the BAS CS Gallery and discussed issues of decolonization, great russian chauvinism, racism, Asiatic-phobia and forms of interaction and cooperation with other NGOs and each other. The meeting was decorated with plov from Maria, poses (giant Buryat ravioli) from Misha and Kalmyk salted tea.
Many thanks to all participants and see you next time.

Foto-Ausstellung “Fluchtgeschichten. Queere Ukraine” ist ein gemeinsames Projekt von Kirill Kazakov, Fotograf aus Kyjiw, und Quarteera e.V. im Raum des BAS CS Gallery ( Teil von Kolonie Wedding e.V. ).

Die Ausstellung präsentiert 20 Fotoportraits und fünf Videos. Aus den Kunststücken sprechen mit dem Publikum queere Menschen, die vor russländischem Krieg aus der Ukraine nach Berlin fliehen mussten. 20 Geschichten über Angst, Verlust und Flucht, aber auch über Identität, Selbstbestimmung und Hoffnung – auf den Frieden, auf den Sieg der Demokratie, auf das neue Leben in der Regenbogenstadt.

Über Kirill Kazakov.

“Kunst erweitert die Grenzen des Bewusstseins und verändert die Wahrnehmung der Realität. Meine Werke sind Schritte auf dem Weg der Erforschung der Kunst und der Welt um mich herum; ein Kommunikationsmittel, das meine Gedanken und Emotionen besser als tausend Worte zum Ausdruck bringt. Mein Großvater, ein Fotograf, führte mich in die Welt der professionellen Fotografie ein, als ich noch ein Kind war. Seitdem hat mich die bildende Kunst fasziniert, und der Rest meines Lebens war mit der Fotografie verwoben. Ein großer Teil meiner 15-jährigen Erfahrung war dem Fernsehen gewidmet, wo ich als Regisseur Dokumentarfilme drehte und bearbeitete.”

Kirill Kazakov ist Fotograf, Performance- und Mixed-Media-Künstler. Er hat am New Yorker Institut für Fotografie studiert. Vor dem Krieg lebte und arbeitete er in Kyjiw, Ukraine.

Sleep and Death in ancient Greece.
Sleep and dreams in the system of ideas of the Ancient Greeks about the Afterlife.

The comparison of sleep and death is very ancient, its examples can be found in many cultures of different times, but only in ancient Greece did these comparisons get a theoretical justification. The ancient Greeks believed sleep and death are closely related and the reflection of this connection is to be found in all spheres, in mythology, philosophy, and public life.
We will talk about the proximity of sleep and death in mythological terms, discuss how dreams can serve as proof of the afterlife and how the living can receive prophecy from the dead through sleep, to give a general idea of how sleep and dreaming are integrated in the system of Greek ideas about life after death.

From the new year, the BAS CS Gallery continues the series of exhibitions under the slogan Versus.
Berlin is the most multicultural cities in Central Europe. It is inhabited by groups of migrants and people with a migration history. Many of these ethnics were bitter enemies in the recent past in their homeland.
In Berlin they manage not to kick each other in the ass.

We are looking for artists to participate in the exhibition.
Working Title: My Beloved Enemy.
We are looking for artists with the following ethnic references:
Vietnam, USA, France, Turkey, Greece, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, China, Japan, Algeria, Kosovo, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The works of artists do not have to be devoted to interethnic or interstate conflict. The willingness of participants to exhibit in a common space is important.

PERFORMANCE
RESORT - SCENE 4

For the opening of the show HOFSPRACHE, VICTOR CHAKRAVARTY will be performing an excerpt from his script Resort, written in Sweden 2021. In the setting of the exhibition, his performance will explore the western cultures need to watch others rather than acting, prioritizing acting for the purpose of others watching, or the common psychological event of watching before acting. The borders between actors and spectators seems to float together in the modern subject. The performance will further explore the demand for exhibitionism in contemporary society, how memory mutates and new automated behavioral patterns are accepted.

The performance will take place in BAS CS GALERIE, during his exhibition ’HOFSPRACHE’ on the 26th august 8:00 PM.

For this performance he will be assisted by Anna Petrova, art historian.

Victor Chakravarty, b. 1995 in Denmark. Holds a BFA Literary Composition from Academy Valand, University of Gothenburg, and is currently finishing his MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. His praxis is interdisciplinary and includes music, literature, philosophy, curation, film, performances, installations, and sculpture. His work has been shown in Czech Republic, Scotland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. Last year he was part of FIAC 2021 in Paris. Victor lives and works in London and Paris.

”Hofsprache” is an old term for the language spoken in court. Directly translated into
English it means Court language and thus creates an expectation about what impact
language should have, what should be gained from the experience of that type of
discourse and what the information presented there can be useful for.

Victor Chakravarty’s exhibition Hofsprache uses correspondence, letters, theatre, and
the voice to investigate how intimacy is shared between people, what form that is
used to qualify intimacy, as in the same way we use a certain procedure to qualify a
certain legal aspect of language and thus give it legal truth.

Ever since the first social media platforms were launched, the usage of language has
become more condensed. What people exchange more resembles telegrams or bits or
fragments, rather than conversations which have an in-depth implication or
consequence for the participants engaged.

As a response to this paradigm, the exhibition explores how to circulate and distribute
language and information in non-standard formats, rethinking language as object and
the possible potential and impact it holds for contemporary life and experience.

About the author and lecturer “Head on fire” @katan.ju

Julia Katan (b. 1997 in Nizhny Novgorod) is a young artist from Odessa. With the beginning of war Julia moved to Berlin to develop her art. After three years of closure and working "in the desk", her paintings had fixed in the neo-surrealist genre in graphic technique. Through her art she explores the mechanisms of thought and, mostly, addresses the subconscious. This is why dreams, random visions and feelings are the main theme of her works.
The language of images is always fantastic, it's a single universe, which is sprawling from one picture to another: sometimes in a detailed "bookish" plot with bizarre characters; on the other hand in an extremely symbolic context, where through the blurred fragments of dreams one can see the archetypes, familiar to everyone.
Julia's oeuvre is threaded on a specific direction: the Light forces confront the Dark ones and the Light triumphs.

Olga Mos ist letzten Jahres von Berlin nach Hamburg gezogen und arbeitet an Ihrer Masterarbeit bei Jorinde Voigt an der HFBK. Nach fünf Jahren des Nomadentums ist der Einzug in das Institutionelle nicht leicht.
So wird vieles an ihrem neuen Wohnort, der Hafenstadt von Bord geworfen und Neuland erkundet - doch so wild wie vor noch einem Jahr scheint Ihre Arbeit nicht mehr zu sein. Doch Olga erkundet neue Möglichkeiten, formuliert neue Ziele.
Wohnin die Reise geht? Ein Aufbruch.

Last year Olga Mos moved from Berlin to Hamburg and is working on her master's thesis at the HFBK and Jorindes Voigt class. After five years of nomadism, moving into the institutional is not easy.
Much is thrown overboard at her new place of residence, the port city. New territory is explored - but her work doesn't seem to be as wild as it was a year ago. But Olga explores new possibilities, formulates new goals.
Where is the journey going? A departure.

Meine Arbeit im Atelier, in der Werkstatt und das Erkunden von Räumen und Orten bringt mich in Bewegung. Die fließenden Farben strömen über meine Bildränder, über die Grenzen hinaus. Formen, Linien und Farben verorten sich in einem Raum. Zeit kommt zum Vorschein, wird verdinglicht, bleibt weiterhin ungreifbar. So erforsche ich das Außen, erkenne dabei das Wesentliche – das Menschliche. So wird etwas ausgelöscht, überwunden und dennoch bewahrt.

My work in the studio and exploring rooms and places gets me moving. The colors flow over the edges of my painting, beyond the borders. Shapes, lines and colors are in one space. Time comes to the fore, is reified, remains immaterial. So I explore the outside, recognize the essential - the human. Something is erased, overcome and yet preserved.
